Simon Pavey to race for Husqvarna in the Dakar Rally

“The Dakar is a real challenge, a real adventure, full of massive unknowns and risks, but that´s what makes it great to ride.”

Husqvarna UK is sponsoring the legendary racer Simon Pavey as part of the UK based Team Delta Kunststoffe Husqvarna UK, to race in the Dakar rally on 5th - 20th of January 2013. Riding a specially adapted Husqvarna TE449, this will be the ninth time Simon, who has already achieved an impressive seven finisher's medals to date, has raced in this epic off-road enduro event.

Lima to Chile

The 2013 edition will see Simon returning with a support crew to compete in the Marathon Class. This newest edition to the Dakar rally will start for the first time, in the Peruvian capital Lima, before heading into Argentina and finishing in Santiago, Chile.

Simon says:

“The Dakar is in my blood and to return for 2013 is extremely exciting. This time I´m riding the Husqvarna TE449. It´s a fantastic bike and I love the engine, I´ve been riding it all year and it´s proved to be really good. It´s a tried and tested bike now, we know what´s strong and the small areas we need to improve, and come the start of the Rally I´m confident I´ll be sat on the best bike I´ve ever had.”

The Husqvarna TE449

The Husqvarna TE449 production bike forms the basis for the rally special, the Husqvarna has been developed and refined into a great race bike. The TE449 recently proved its racing credentials when Joan Barreda rode it to victory in the 2012 Pharoans Rally in Egypt as part of the Speedbrain Husqvarna Rallye Team.

Using the experience which Simon gained in the 2011 Dakar rally, the TE449 has been refined and redeveloped to create a strong and most reliable race bike. It is a light, nimble and easy to ride rally bike with a strong six-speed gear box.

With one Dakar test made by by former factory rider Pedro Bianchi Prata, Simon´s previous Dakar rides and the knowledge gained on the bike, it has proved to be strong in stock trim and only needs a few minor modifications to be Dakar worthy.
